DO IT!
Feel the fear and just to it! (Part 3)
I felt like I had conquered all three levels at Virginia Lake and felt like I needed something more challenging.
I had gone to City Gym years ago. I loved it and Danny and Pat are cool guys, and the atmosphere is great. I so wanted to go back but my big fear was: “Will I be able to physically handle it?” My head said I could but my body was way out of shape, just had the hernia op done a few months back, overweight still. I had lost sufficient weight prior to surgery to make it that little bit easier on me.
I got my daughter-in-law and granddaughter to come with me and I made a time to meet with Danny for an assessment, and to get started.
He remembered me and was stoked to have me back. I could not even bend over and touch the ground. I could not lie on a bench without Danny helping me to get up. It was so embarrassing but he made me feel comfortable about it. I was sore as for a couple of weeks after doing weights.
So began my routine at the gym; three days a week. Started off on low weights etc.…, got through my program day at a time. Had my first assessment three months later and gained weight because of the muscle, but lost a considerable amount of fat. Three cheers for me!
I have continued with gym, though I struggle sometimes, and if I miss it - I sure do miss it, and I get back there because I have made such good progress. My 35 year old niece can’t beat me in an arm wrestle!
I can bend over now, I can get down and get up by myself. I can reach over the benches and into the cupboards, I can wash my feet in the bath and shower LOL! Etc.… the list goes on at what I can do because of the hard work and success of the surgery. I had lost over 30 kgs since 2013-2015.
By the way; in the midst of all that happening I started a business (that’s another story).
I continue my journey, I still see my mentor and best mate, at least two times a week to touch base and catch up and I still need to pull my head in on a regular basis. I want to leave you with the following:
- No matter what you go through in life, you need support; you don’t have to go through it alone. You need to be accountable for your choices, your thinking, emotions, and your actions.
- Believe that you can do it even if it FEELS like you can’t. Do it even when you don’t want to. DO IT!
- Listen to those older and wiser (younger as the case may be); heed their advice and good will.
- Commit to a healthy mind-set that enables you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Don’t take your health for granted, it is all you have.
- Maintain what you have achieved by continuing to do the right thing or you will lose it. If you go off track, okay, talk to your mentor and get back on. Your choice!
- Pay it forward by encouraging others to do the same.
As a result I no longer need to take Metformin, YES!!! My Asthma is under control, wish the allergies would fly away into oblivion! I am fitter, stronger, more energetic, and able to keep up with my two year old little chook (granddaughter) and scoop her up and over my shoulders.
Good health, good decisions, healthy mind-set as we move into 2016 and beyond!
CHEERS,
Lenna K. Millar
